HP LaserJet Pro MFP - Make a copy

Learn how to make a copy and adjust the copy settings using the printer control panel.

NOTE:

The steps vary according to the type of control panel.

Follow these steps for LaserJet Pro MFP models that have a touchscreen control panel with a white background.

  1. Load the original print-side down on the scanner glass, or print-side up in the automatic document feeder.

  2. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Copy icon.

  3. Touch the Document icon.

  4. On the Copy Document menu, select the following settings for your copy job:

    • 2-sided copying: Select the appropriate copying option for the desired output. If you select the 2-sided copy option, make sure to load the second page on the scanner glass when prompted.

    • Tray Selection: Specify which tray to use for printing copies.

    NOTE:

    For additional information or help, touch the Help button  on the printer control panel.

  5. To select additional options for the copy job, touch the Settings icon , and then scroll to and touch the desired option. The following copy settings are available:

    • Resize: Touch a preset size, or touch Custom and input a value between 25 and 400 percent to reduce or enlarge the copy, and then touch Done.

    • Original Size: Select the size of the original document that you are copying.

    • Tray selectionSpecify which tray to use for printing copies.

    • Quality: Select the output quality (Draft, Normal, or Best) for the copy job.

    • Lighter/Darker: Use the slider to adjust the lightness or darkness of the copy.

    • Color/Black: Specify whether copies are printed in color or in black and white.

      NOTE:

      This option is available only on Color printer models.

    • Enhancements: Select the type of document you are copying (such as Text, Photo, or Mixed) to enhance the copy quality.

    • Collate: If making more than one copy, turn on this setting to assemble the pages in the correct order for each set of copies.

      NOTE:

      This option is not available on all models.

    • Binding Margin: Turn on this setting to produce pages with a margin shifted to the left side of the page.

  6. Touch the Back button  to return to the Copy Document menu.

  7. If copying from the scanner glass, touch Preview or the Preview icon  to preview the document.

  8. To adjust the number of copies, touch the box to the left of the Copy button and then enter the number of copies using the touch keypad. Touch the Done icon  to close the keypad.

  9. Touch Copy to begin copying.

Follow these steps for LaserJet Pro MFP models that have a touchscreen control panel with a black background.

TOUCHSCREEN WITH BLACK BACKGROUND

  1. Load the original print-side down on the scanner glass, or print-side up in the automatic document feeder.

  2. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Copy icon .

  3. Touch the Settings button.

  4. To adjust the copy image settings, scroll to and touch Image Adjustment, and then scroll through the list and select the desired option.

    The following image-adjustment settings are available:

    NOTE:

    To adjust these settings, touch the + or  buttons to change the values.

    • Lightness: Adjusts the lightness/darkness setting

    • Contrast: Adjusts the contrast between the lightest and darkest areas of the image

    • Sharpen: Adjusts the clarity of text characters

    • Background removal: Adjusts the darkness of the background of the image. This is especially useful for original documents that are printed on colored paper.

    • Color Balance: Adjusts the red, green, and blue color hues

    • Grayness: Adjusts the vividness of colors

  5. To optimize copy quality for different types of documents, return to the Settings menu, and then scroll to and touch Optimize. Scroll through the list and select the desired option.

    The following copy-quality settings are available:

    • Auto Select: Use this setting when you are not concerned about the quality of the copy. This is the default setting.

    • Mixed: Use this setting for documents that contain a mixture of text and graphics.

    • Text: Use this setting for documents that contain mostly text.

    • Picture: Use this setting for documents that contain mostly graphics.

  6. Touch the Back button  to return to the main copy menu.

  7. Touch Number of Copies, and then use the touchscreen keypad to adjust the number of copies.

  8. Start copying:

    • Mono printers: Touch the Start Copy button.

    • Color printers: Touch the Black or Color button.
